Elizabeth Acevedo Publishes BizWomen Article on Estate Planning to Preserve Wealth, Values and Impact

Elizabeth Acevedo recently authored an article for BizWomen entitled, “Strategies: Why estate planning is key to preserving your wealth, values and impact,” where she examines the importance of strategic estate planning and how it helps female founders and business leaders protect their legacies.

“Early and intentional planning can be profoundly impactful, allowing businesswomen to design and protect their legacy while they are actively building it,” Elizabeth writes, noting that legacy has different meanings for women depending on their individual and ultimate goals.

Elizabeth cautions that “Without a plan in place, women are foregoing the opportunity to shape their legacy, instead allowing their affairs to be managed by default state law rules that are often misaligned with their objectives.” She continues to explain that particularly for female business owners, a well-crafted estate plan can “ensure continuity and ongoing success in their absence by clearly defining successors and operational strategies,” also emphasizing that it can even “optimize a company’s value in the event of sale.”

For women looking to make an impact through charitable endeavors, Elizabeth highlights how estate plans can help minimize transfer taxes, including estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes, which gives women the opportunity to dedicate more funds to meaningful causes, writing that “thoughtful and early estate planning can cement your impact for generations to come.”
