Jeremy D. Matz is a highly accomplished and respected trial attorney with more than twenty-five years of professional experience in complex civil and criminal litigation, including in trusts and estates litigation. He has tried more than twenty cases to juries, judges, and arbitrators, and has successfully defended his trial victories on appeal, resulting in favorable published appellate decisions. At Weinstock Manion, Jeremy represents individuals and entities as beneficiaries, fiduciaries, and other parties in a broad array of trust, estate, and probate disputes. His clients and colleagues have complimented him for being “always in control, giving impeccable guidance throughout trial, and being prepared for everything thrown our way” and for “demonstrating dedication to his clients and consistently going above and beyond to ensure their interests are fiercely represented.” As described by one client: “a more responsive, intelligent and skilled lawyer one could not hope to have by your side.”
Before joining Weinstock Manion, Jeremy served as Associate General Counsel at a major bank in Los Angeles. Together with outside counsel, he won major litigation victories and settlements, including in multiple trust litigation matters where the bank acted as a trustee and fiduciary for high-net-worth clients.
Prior to the bank, Jeremy was a partner at a prominent Los Angeles law firm specializing exclusively in sophisticated civil and white-collar criminal litigation. There, he focused on a wide spectrum of complex business litigation, representing individuals, executives, privately-held companies, and major publicly-traded corporations in business disputes, government enforcement cases, and federal and state white-collar criminal investigations.
Jeremy began his legal career by clerking for a federal judge and then serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles for thirteen years. As first-chair counsel in dozens of jury trials and appeals, he prosecuted a wide array of economic crimes, conducted hundreds of direct and cross-examinations in grand jury sessions and trials, and drafted countless trial court and appellate briefs. He supervised and led litigation and investigation teams of 10-15 attorneys, experts, accountants, paralegals, and agents. He also developed a deep knowledge of the rules of evidence, which he taught for several semesters at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
